Arirang Alone cover by So Hyang

When I was bored one afternoon and was tired of listening to my favorite songs, I went on YouTube and looked around. I kept clicking random songs and came across this one. It was something different to listen to.

The beginning entranced me her voice coming of light and airy. If you want to write something sentimental and heart wrenching this is definitely the song for you. The feel I got from this song starts off lighthearted and beautiful then when it hits the 1:50 mark it takes a different turn towards the dramatic kind of like a climatic scene in a movie.

This song is a cover of a Korean folk song said to be the unofficial anthem of Korea. It is a national symbol of their past and history as a country. It had came from the older generation when Korea was once oppressed by Japan. The first Emperor of Korea (17th century) had even invited troupes to perform Arirang. The song has a meaning that if they can go through their harsh reality, there will be a better future. It inspired me to try to write a story about it with a similar historical conflict and being able to overcome it.
